Unity in the Body of Christ
By Greg Christman

What is our greatest struggle as Christians in the Body of Christ, living in this day and age? Is it gay marriage? Is it divorce? Crime? NO! Though these things are struggles, and some of them are tremendous battles in both the physical and the heavenly realms, I truly believe the greatest battle above all is UNITY!

“There is one body and one Spirit - just as you were called to one hope when you were called - one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” (Ephesians 4:4-6).

God calls us to unity. Jesus taught about unity. The disciples struggled with unity in the early church in Acts. We struggle with it today. If we look at all the struggles I listed previously, and all other struggles you can think of, I bet at the root of the battle is a lack of unity.

I believe unity is the biggest battle ground because the enemy has established footholds, in our churches, and in our hearts, that keep even fellow “Christians” battling each other, constantly. And if the enemy can keep us fighting each other, Christian against Christian, then how in the world are we going to stand together for anything, and more importantly, how could we possibly stand together to fight for the Kingdom?

The Kingdom is all about unity. There is ONE Lord, ONE Faith, and ONE Baptism. There is really no grey area, and there really is no discussion. If we can’t agree on this simple fact, how in the world can we agree on anything? The enemy knows he has us fighting for him as soon as he establishes division in our hearts… our hearts, establish our ability to love… and after all… to love, is to be in relationship… and if there is no relationship, there can be no love.

What was the greatest commandment? To love God with all our heart, and to love our neighbor. If we have division, there can be no love.

Let me state this clearly, if we are fighting about my church versus yours… your baptism is at the wrong time of life… you have not been baptized, you were sprinkled… you can’t pray with us, you go to the wrong church… etc… etc… You name it, we fight about it. All of these battles are just footholds of the enemy. Bottom line, if we profess ourselves as Christians, we are to stand in Christ, in love for each other, and we are to go to battle for God. Put on the armor of God, and get on the battle field. STOP fighting each other, and let’s go to battle fighting the enemy. Let’s show him we can stand together, and that as the Body of Christ, he has no power against us.

If we stand together, we stand in unity… and we stand for Christ!
