Just Do It
By Greg Christman

It’s time to revisit a topic I have shared before. Why? Because it is important, and I guess I know that I have not done so well in this area, and have not placed it in the priority light God wants it, so I feel there are probably others who have done the same. This morning, in my Pinnacle Forum men’s group, we talked about this (well, we circled around it and other things including Psalm 127 – GO READ IT!). We each considered it, and determined that after a couple years of talking about it, we are all going to go home and, with great intention, try to do it!

Where are your priorities? God first, then Family, and then Work, I hope. If not, you need some realignment: go back and read my article in Volume 9, #3. If you believe your priorities are in line, then let’s evaluate a little bit. Have you read Psalm 127 yet? “Unless the Lord builds the house, the laborers build in vain. In vain you rise early, and stay up late, toiling for food to eat – for He grants sleep to those He loves.” (Read the whole chapter).

Soloman shares these words with us to show us how important having God at the center of our lives is. “Unless the Lord builds the house”… your house is your life, your personal life, prayer life, etc… your home – your family, kids, spouse, etc… and your job. Your “house” is everything that makes you who you are, and this psalm is telling us that “Unless the Lord builds” it, we do it all in vain.

What this means is that if we don’t intentionally place God at the center, if we don’t place God in our homes and families, if we don’t place God at the center of our business – we “labor in vain.” It is really that simple.

Do you pray at home? Does your family come together in prayer? Do you consult God in family decisions? What about work? Do you ask God’s advice about your daily tasks? Does He have a plan for your day, your next meeting, or for your business in general?

I think many of us do pretty well at reading the Word of God. We may even understand it. We may be able to quote it on demand. BUT, my big question is, “What do you do about it?” At what point are you going to actually stand up, and take action? In the gospel of John, Jesus shared a similar thought, six times: “If you love Me, you will obey My command.” (John 14:15). Also see John 14:12, 14:23, 15:10, 15:14, and 17:11. I believe Jesus was driving home an important point here. Do you see it? Read them over, again, and again. It is pretty clear. Jesus has given us commands, and many great teachings, and I believe He has made it very clear that we are to love each other, honor and obey God, and we are to put God at the center of absolutely everything we do.

Jesus has told us throughout the gospels, and throughout the Bible it has been reinforced, that we are to live according to God’s will, not according to our own. When are we going to listen? When are we going to seek His will, and when are we going to obey? This is really not a complicated task. It is really very simple. We are to spend time seeking God - solitude and prayer, listen to what he tells us, and then the absolutely most important thing, JUST DO IT!
