I sat in my sharing circle at the AA meeting last summer listening to others dance around and avoid saying the name of Jesus or God. They were referring to the “Master of the Universe” as their “Higher Power.” Anything was acceptable as long as nobody in the group had to be offended by the Savior’s name.
I sat there thinking of how Satan would never allow anyone to know the actual truth, just a twisted version of it that was comfortable and cemented in group think. This was Socialism / Communism at its best demonstrative deception. It was all-encompassing and satisfying to those who hoped to conveniently avoid the truth.
An ex-biker piped up that he was having problems with the concept of an all powerful God. He had convinced himself that walking to the cliff’s edge of truth was safer than actually taking the healing plunge. He began mentioning his belief in science and the awesome power of the universe and how atomic energy and atoms held steel together and the strength that had in making a strong world. He implied that the same energy held his body together.
I sat and waited for him to mention that God had created the world in seven days, according to the book of Genesis in the Bible. It was a book he had read, but not quite accepted as truth. It was closer to being a fairy tale, a children’s myth. He refused to take part in such “nonsense.” I smiled.
The folks in the sharing circle told their stories, all avoiding the God topic. I could not wait to explain why I believed in Jesus and Father God and the Holy Spirit. All were One and the reason we existed.
I began to explain that I, too, had taken physics and chemistry in high school. Both studies unlocked the mysteries of how the universe worked and was constructed and de-constructed. I stated, “Even the atheist or agnostic is held together by the same atomic energy that a Christian is. The only difference is believing the source of that atomic power.
When humans die, a process of dis-integration begins to take place. We fall apart slowly, then quickly. We go back to the physical elements that made up our bodies. What is missing? The gifted atomic energy of the Holy Spirit that held us together is no longer present to hold us together. Our energy, held in our individual souls, returns to God, our Creator. We transition to new form and are not lost forever to decay or eternal loss or loneliness.
The only difference between this ex-biker and myself was truth in declaring my attachment and origin with the Creator of the universe, God, and His Son, Jesus via His Holy Spirit.
Why would we avoid such truth? We avoid it because admitting we might have been wrong is more appealing to pride than to humility.
Pride serves Satan and originates with his dark energy. Humility begins in surrender of pride and self to the Creator. It is surrender to Truth and is perfected when we choose the Creator and die our natural deaths. To believe anything else is to swallow the devil’s greatest deception.
It is convincing humans that God never existed and that Satan is God and man must follow him. At death, he then makes a legal claim to our souls for eternity, because we willfully chose to follow lies rather than truth, which is inconvenience.
The atheist biker listened. I saw his hands shaking. The counter-argument was flawless and could not be countered as truth. For once, as a Christian (follower of Christ), I saw the devil’s deception crumbling before my eyes and those of witnesses who still sat on the fence regarding accepting Christ Jesus in their lives.
Since that meeting, I have always proclaimed Jesus as my God at each AA meeting when we start and finish with prayer. I’m truly proud that it has become the best way to evangelize my fellow men and women toward His gifted promise of eternal salvation — should they consider choosing the gift of eternal life beyond atoms held together by the atomic energy of science.
