Taking Care of Our Health

Q:  What does the Bible say about our responsibility to take care of our personal health?   

 

   According to God’s Word, our physical bodies are like a temple where the Holy Spirit dwells. 1 Corithians 3:16-17 further reinforces this: “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?.....If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.”

   If we take these verses at face value, they are telling us that it is wrong to destroy our bodies and God will hold us accountable if we destroy our bodies. 

   There are many ways that we can hurt or damage our health. Scientists have warned us for years about the hazards of cholesterol, tobacco, stress, obesity, and alcohol. Hospitals and clinics are filled to the brim with people who have ignored the warnings....and if you don’t want to be added to their list, then listen to God and begin taking care of your body. God really does care how we treat our body, and He’s given us a free health plan, and a manual to go by... the Bible! Let’s take a few minutes to see what the Bible has to say about taking care of our bodies.
