Omen Or Amen?

   Omens are born either out of fear or out of a faith in something other than God. To those who believe in them, there are good omens, signs from “the universe” that some people believe are speaking to us; and there are bad omens; born out of a fearful heart, signs that create fear of progress.

   As a Christian, when we say ‘AMEN,’ it is an agreement with God. It literally means “let it be so, Lord.” It is a faithful addendum to a sentence that says, “what I just said, I said in faith.” As those who know the Creator of the universe, we look to Him for our affirmations.

   I am an empty-nester now. We just moved my baby into an apartment at a university several hours away. As we were leaving our driveway, in his vehicle packed to the ceiling with all his items, I said a prayer out loud, “Lord, bless our trip to UGA and keep us safe.” As soon as I had finished, some of the items in the car suddenly (and loudly) shifted — we both looked at each other and gave a little laugh. I jokingly said, “that was either an ‘omen’ or an ‘amen’!”

   Being a woman of faith, I do not believe in omens. I believe in a spiritual world where there are forces of good and forces of evil. But I know what side I am aligned with. I know Who fights for me and not against me. ...
