God’s Wandering Children (Part 5)

Complimentary Story
May  2025

Two damaged lives, a yellow truck, an open road, and a life we never could have imagined.

This article is a continuation from last month so I want to recap part of last month’s article.

We met a man several days prior that had a son who was very sick. The father explained they had gone the medical route and his son was not any better. He had been looking into herbs and when he saw that we were selling herbs, he explained what his situation was and asked if we would look for a rather hard to find herb that he felt may help his son. We prayed with him asking for God’s guidance for him as he tried to help his son.

San Antonio was the first major city we were in that we thought we may be able to find the herb he was looking for. It was very easy to get the name of a store that carried a very large selection of herbs. The store had a big reputation and we were about to find out why.

When we got to the store it was one of those places that has a very bad feeling to it. You could get anything from shrunken heads to use for witchcraft to a crucifix that was laying almost beside the head. This is just a sample of what you could buy there. For a fee, you could have someone blessed or cursed. If you had enough faith and paid enough money, you could get someone out of jail. It was clearly stated that if the incantation did not work it was your fault because of the lack of faith on your part.

We did find the herb we were looking for, but there was no way we were buying anything in that store. (Isaiah 5:20).  However, there was a list of herbs that are available and we took the list with us. That was a very major mistake. God was about to teach us another lesson about how powerful the spirit world is and how easily it can affect us.

When we left San Antonio,  we headed south toward Laredo. We had not gone very far when minor problems with the truck starting showing up. The problems were not serious to begin with and certainly nothing that would make us think  there would be any connection to the store we had recently been in.

We wanted to find supplies we could use in the crafts we were selling and we figured it would take most of the day to look, so we spent the night in a truck stop. That’s where we could feel the spiritual atmosphere had changed. There was a definite oppressive feeling to the place we were in. We got so uncomfortable being there that we spent our time in the parking area. We would not even go inside the store.

After the experience at the truck stop, we got uncomfortable with the whole area and did not spend much time looking for the items we had hoped to find and were glad to leave town. We had seen a location about 50 miles south of San Antonio that looked like it would be a good place to set up to sell. Before we got there, the truck started handling strangely. What I found when I stopped to check out why the truck was handling so weird defies my understanding. The lug nuts on the rear wheels were all loose. There was a mechanic at the station where we stopped and he tightened them up. Because we were never out of sight of the truck a physical spiritual attack is the most likely cause of all the lug nuts being loose. We have always believed there is a spiritual world that can affect us. Some for good and some for bad. That episode was the real beginning of understanding how accurate our belief is. The worst is yet to come.

We were able to set up at the location we had seen on our way to Laredo. After the oppressing feeling we had in Laredo, we wanted to be cautious about where we were. In this case, caution was not enough. There is an evil part to the spirit world and for some reason they seemed to know our name throughout the rest of our travels.

We got set up by evening and settled down for the night. The first night I had a very bad dream that I cannot remember. I only know it was like nothing I had ever dreamed before. The next day, the weather was bad with heavy winds and rain, so we never did open up for business.

That night I had another dream. It was one of those dreams that you never forget. I have had dreams that I know were from God. This one was not from God!  Although I never saw anyone, I could hear people laughing a hideous evil laugh and a child screaming. The sound of the screaming was like the child was directly in front of me. I did not see anyone or what they were doing to the child, but it was the sound of the child screaming that I still hear today when I think of that night. (2 Thessalonians 3:3).

The next morning we threw the herb list that we had taken from the store away, tore our setup down, and drove north of San Antonio and went to church.

We do not know why we were a target so many times during our travels, but Satan was definitely trying to defeat our faith and instead, he just helped make us stronger by looking to the Lord for our help. (1 Peter 5:8).

“For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, ‘Fear not; I will help thee.’” (Isaiah 41:13 KJV).
