September 2023“Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” (Matthew 7:24-27 NKJV).
Our nation is in absolute peril right now. It is shameful as well as painful to watch as an American, but I am not sure we should be surprised by this information. We have kicked God out of the courthouse, we have taken Him out of the statehouse, we have thrown God out of the schoolhouse, and we have banned Him from the public square so why are we so surprised to see the state of our Nation? Our Nation was built on the Judeo-Christian values that we see on the pages of Scripture.
John Adams, our second President, said of our system of government, a constitutional republic that, “Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
It is without doubt that most of the people in power and control right now are not moral or religious people. And if they are religious people, it is not the one true religion of grace through faith in Christ alone, rather their religion is one of works, greed, lies, deceit, and corruption. Because of our own greed, we have let the proverbial fox in the hen house, and we wonder why the eggs are broken and the hens are torn to pieces. It is noticeably clear that those in power are targeting our youth and are seeking to draw away our people that they might worship at the altar of self-comfort and greed.
We are told by Jesus Christ that, “Whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.” We are to build our life upon the rock that is Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Now, on our own, we cannot make this nation a nation built upon the rock, but you and I can build our own lives individually upon the rock that is Christ Jesus, our Lord, and anchor our lives in Christ. By building upon the rock that is Christ Jesus as individuals, we can be a lighthouse, and a beacon of hope to a world that is lost, deceived, and descending further into darkness with every passing day. We must serve to warn those who would have their lives shipwrecked by the lies of the enemy.
We are in a spiritual battle which cannot be denied, and it also cannot be won in our own power. We must stand firm in the full armor of God taking each piece of that armor up daily as is listed in Ephesians chapter 6 so that we will be equipped to stand against evil. We are called to stand firm, we are not called to retreat. All the armor of God has to do with forward facing pieces of armor except for the helmet of salvation. Those in the Lord’s army are not called to retreat; we are called to stand firm, to occupy until Christ comes.
We must build upon the Rock which is Christ. There are many foolish people in this nation who are building upon a worthless foundation of sand. Jesus says of them,
“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” (Matthew 7:26-27 NKJV).
It is not enough to merely hear the words of Christ; we must put our faith into action by obedience to His Word. We must continue to build upon the rock that is Christ Jesus.
The Psalmist tells us, “I will love You, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my Rock and my Fortress and my Deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my Stronghold. I will call upon the Lord, Who is worthy to be praised; So, shall I be saved from my enemies.” (Psalm 18:1-3 NKJV).
What foundation are you building on? When those around you fall, will you stand for Christ?
